Here Lies the Rose
by Randy Chambers, 2010-03-24
Passion kindled rose will die
beneath the weight of urgent need
The flower's limbs limp to its side
when love no more will give it heed
And on the precipice of time
lost more, a day, lost more, a day
sapped of strength, spotted, wrinkle lined
a petal falls, away...falls, away
Vibrant red, now dreary dinged
few petals hold for lingering hope
But certain, soon the winter wind
last petals swing from withered rope
Upon love's mist no more to feed
the petal last, all hopes released
beneath the weight of urgent need
the unfilled, vacant rose, deceased.
