Be Ready

Luke 12:35-36, NIV: "Be dressed ready for service and keep
your lamps burning, like men waiting for their master to return from a wedding
banquet, so that when he comes and knocks they can immediately open the door for
him.
Time will tell whether the words of a prophet are truth or nothing but vain
ramblings. There are some who with the best intentions proclaim that God has
revealed the date of His return. These often manage to draw many to follow them
to a place where they will be ready for Jesus to come and gather them home. But
to their sorrow, they discover their error and leave perplexed--wondering where
they went wrong with their interpretation of the signs of the times. As the end
approaches, Jesus warns, "At that time if anyone says to you, 'Look, there he
is! do not believe it. For false Christs and false prophets will appear and
perform signs and miracles to deceive the elect--if that were possible. So be on
your guard; I have told you everything ahead of time" (Mark 13:21-23). Again He
tells us, "No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven,
nor the Son, but only the Father. As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be
at the coming of the Son of Man" (Mt.24:36). Of these matters, Jesus warns us,
"Watch out that know one deceives you" and "Therefore keep watch, because you do
not know on what day your Lord will come" (Mt.24:42).
